Well I am back in town and thrilled to pieces that it is RAINING! The drought is so bad now we (being the state of Georgia) is in a fight with Alabama and Florida for water from our Lake Lainer. But you know there is no such thing as Global Warming.
Have to share all that I learned at the Pittsburgh Airport! and on the plane.
1. They are darn friendly there. The Air Tran lady who took my bags was all nice and chatty with me. Then I almost hugged the first TSA guy (Seriously!) because he was just so friendly and funny while I was standing in line proving to him that I really was me. The only thing that stopped me is that might be breaking some type of federal airport law. Then the guy that had to wand me was super nice too and I learned that a large hair clip does make the sensors go off.
2. The bartender was very efficient even if she did have to read my lips to understand me. Now I know you are wondering what a bartender was doing but if one has two hours to do something in the airport and you've already gone through all the shops window shopping, I think having a glass of white wine with a book is an excellent choice. Have I mentioned that I have this thing about getting to airports early? Rather wait at the bar, coffee shop, etc than do the mad dash run to the very last gate at the furthest terminal.
3. Have I mentioned people in Pittsburgh take decorating for holidays very seriously? Even in the airport there was Halloween decorations all over the place. At my gate, the "Air Tran" sign had big ole cobwebs in it. I love those crazy decorating Pittsburgh folks! All over town was Halloween decorations.
4. Is it me or does every one find it strange that you sit very next to a complete stranger for a long time and never acknowledge each other? Even when we bumped elbows, nothing.
5. XM radio really isn't all that.
6. You can purchase wine for $5 charge on a plane? Yes, I know there was theme here. True confession time . . . though I am not a bad flier the truth is I am not as thrilled to fly as I once was. It all started with a flight back from Pittsburgh on Sept 10, 2001 when for some unknown reason I got the willies. I mean the full blown willies with the thought that I would never be able to fly again without serious phobia counseling which was truly bizarre since I had always loved to fly before this and nothing at all happened on our flight home. Have to wonder if somehow I picked up the vibes of what was going to happen the next morning with the Twin Towers and Pentagon.
Oh! I did find two very cool websites while I was gone and sorry they have nothing to do with knitting or yarn.
First one is Book Swim which is a website for renting books sorta like NetFlix. Took a long look at it on Saturday, signed up and three books arrived today! Check it out and if you are interested leave me a comment. Since I have an account I can send you an e-mail from there which will give you half off your first month. Nope, I get nothing in return other than being nice to you.
The other website is for charity but it is a really cool idea! Teachers send in proposals to raise money for projects for their classrooms. Being that I know a few teachers I am still amazed at how little they are paid and how much of their own money goes into getting supplies for their classrooms. At Donor's Choose you get to select what proposal you want to help and what amount. Even if you only have a dollar it helps. Check it out and help our future!
Off to download photos and I promise knitting adventure in the future!
Glad you liked my airport of choice. It gives me a new lens with which to look at it- as long as I don't have to go to it. I'll take a grungy train station with no TSA's any day. It's good you had such a pleasant experience!

Yay! She's back! I think it's something about the flight from Pittsburgh to Atlanta that does it. I was making that flight many years ago when the same thing happened to me, and I have been fighting a fear of flying ever since. Weird, huh?

naw, they were just reacting to a bubbly Deb, that's all! all those pittsburgh people are not usually that way. oh, what do i know? i've only been there once. yeah that is pretty weird about being so aware of the person next to you but not ever actually acknowledging their existence. seems like the last flight i was on, the woman next to me was from.... atlanta, maybe? we chatted on and on.
