It's it strange how someone (me) can be so very organized at work and at home with financial paperwork but have other things all over the place.
Sometime last year I went into a black hole of memory when it came to magazine subscriptions. I joked I was trying out opening a physician's office at home but even I realized it had gotten a bit out of hand. Even began to get gifted magazine subscriptions I had not ordered. Turns out I had not unchecked a small box at the end of the order form for makeup I was ordering. Really did not need the Working Mother, Vogue Teen or a few other magazines.
Turns out there are two ways to recycle. Throw the monthly mountain into our blue curb box or lug them to work. Who knew Martha Stewart Living was such a hot commodity! I swear they left at a blinding speed with rarely even lasting 30 minutes.
Now that I've canceled a few that I realize really weren't that interesting and not renewed a few we are down to a dull roar. Keeping it simpler now with ripping out whatever I'm interested in the first time I go through a magazine and then toss it in my car to bring to work.
The only magazines I have trouble doing that with were my knitting and cooking magazines. Then I realized that most of the patterns in the magazines were not moving me with their patterns. Well until it came time to renew and then all of a sudden the magazine had several patterns I loved. Fell for this two years running. This time around I swore I would not be suckered into it. Now all 4 knitting subscriptions have been laid to rest. Yes, I know this is a stunning way to stop the madness but I haven't really missed them.
Back to all the cooking magazines. One day at work during a brief slow period one of my co-workers had a stack of Cooking Light Magazines he was ripping through. He had arranged a notebook in sections and was ripping out all the tabbed recipes he'd thought about making over the past three years. When he was finished he announced that was it for his subscription till he'd made all those recipes. Which got me thinking. No way I was going to give up my Cooking Light but loved the notebook idea.
Poured myself a tall glass of wine and got cracking. Why had I not thought of this before?
Love my cooking notebooks! Use sleeves just like I use for the knitting pattersn I also have pocket dividers for recipes I want to try but haven't!
