I shall not go down the slippery slope of telling you who I am partial to in these elections or attempting to tell you who I think you should vote for. My hope is all that read this and can vote will vote.
It is mind boggling to me that women were only allowed to start voting a little over 90 years ago. Have you ever read about what happened to those women who were put in jail for protesting for the right to vote? All for wanting to have a choice in how we are governed.
Then there are all of the people that have served us in the military. From the Revolutionary War to right this very second in Iraq and Afghanistan. All of those people have served to preserve our rights to voice our choices. I come from Grandparents who immigrants and instilled in me the importance of this privilege and what others had given up to give this to us. They knew how lucky they were to be American when they were sworn in.
I have had three Uncles and my father (career military) who served and one cousin that is continuing to serve. I also vote out of respect to them. The best thing that happened to me today was thanking a group of 8 retired Veterans for serving and telling them that "because of you I have the privilege to vote." You should have seen the huge grins I got.
Go vote. Please
I need to read your blog more often!!! You make excellent points and I have a lot in common with you. My Dad came from East Germany (escaped) so he knew what a privilege it was to have our freedom here. And it is amazing that it's only been a short time that women could participate. I'm beginning to think that people are starting to realize that they do have a voice!
